Houston Business Journal Top 25 Individual Realtors 2005. In a sense, Walter’s real estate career actually spans five generations dating back to when the Bering family originally settled in Houston. The family arrived in Houston via the bayou and intended to take an oxcart on to Llano County. “The story goes,” laughs Walter, “that either the wagon broke or the ox did not understand German, so the family settled in Houston.” Whatever the reason, it was a fortuitous beginning in Houston real estate. The Berings purchased a farm in what is now West Houston for 50 cents an acre. This farm was bordered by dirt roads on four sides. Today these four “dirt” roads are Westheimer Road, Post Oak Boulevard, Voss Road, and Interstate Highway 10, all major arteries criss-crossing prime Houston real estate. Through the years the Bering family was instrumental in the expansion of the community, developing subdivisions in the Memorial area and several sections of Tanglewood. Now that Walter’s family have sold off and developed the original “family farm”, he has built a real estate career with roots in these same areas. Walter’s earliest memories in real estate are of the family business started by Walter’s grandfather and father, Bering Realty Corp. Walter began working for the firm while a teenager, mowing the lawns of the company’s listings and even serving as the company janitor. “I learned my first telephone skills as a child when the company phones would roll over to our house after hours.” After graduating from Tulane University in 1979, Walter officially joined the family firm. He served as one of the top sales agents, office manager, relocation director, and eventually designated broker for the firm. When Bering Realty Corp. was sold, Walter saw an opportunity to become a part of Martha Turner Properties. “I chose to join Martha Turner Properties because it is a partnership that best complements the market areas of my expertise.” Walter has specialized in some of Houston’s most prominent neighborhoods, including: River Oaks, Tanglewood, West University, Southampton, and Memorial. In addition, Walter has been involved in one of the largest home sale transactions in Fort Bend County. And, for those interested in property south of the border, Walter was selected to be the listing agent for Villa Arabesque in Acapulco, Mexico, priced at $26 million. Successful Realtors, like houses, are built on a strong foundation. For this reason, Walter Bering has been chosen by a multitude of buyers and sellers to represent them in the purchase or sale of their most precious commodity…their home. Please choose Walter Bering to represent you for your real estate needs.
