TREC passes emergency rules
The Texas Real Estate Commission passed emergency rules granting an additional four months to complete the license
renewal or application process for licensees and existing applicants who reside or maintain offices in the 29 counties
declared disaster areas due to Hurricane Ike and who have either begun the application process or have a license expiring
during the period of September 30, 2008 and February 28, 2009.
The extra four month period for license renewal begins on the date the license is set to expire. The deadline extension
also includes satisfying MCE and fingerprinting requirements for renewals as well as taking exams for existing
applicants.
The rules apply to salespersons, brokers, and inspectors.
More information regarding TREC's response to Hurricane Ike can be found at the commission's Web site, which will be
updated periodically.
We have consolidated the rule changes into single documents; one for TREC and one for the Texas Appraiser Licensing and
Certification Board. Since many of the people impacted by the hurricane will likely not have Internet access or may not
be reading the newspaper right now, word of mouth is going to be the best method of distributing this information to
those who need it most.
Thank you for your help in getting the word out. We will also send out a notice once the guidelines for application for
aid through the Texas REALTOR® Disaster Relief Fund have been established so please take note of anyone in your offices
who you think might qualify.
